Memento (2000)

Memento is a 2000 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan,which was adapted from his younger brother Jonathan Nolan's short story "Memento Mori".

The film centres around the character leonard Shelby, we learn through the film that he has anterograde amnesia which makes it impossible for him to make new memories in his head. The story is about his journey on discovering and taking vengeance out on who raped and murdered his wife and caused his amnesia. Leonard has developed a system of recollecting the evidence he has previously gathered by way of hand written notes, post-its, tattoos and polaroid pictures.

Above is the first two minutes of the film, and possibly the closest resemblance to our own two minute piece that we're trying to make. there are certain things in these two minutes which make it such a good scene to play backwards for instance the disappearance of the picture on the polaroid film, the retrieval of the gun, the bullet rolling back along with the blood and of course the body coming back to life. It takes a while to sink in that the scene is in reverse as the developing of the picture is so slow but then a fast pace of reversal takes place in the gun shot scene. It then cuts directly to black and white where everything is then played forward and installs the sense of confusion with the audience as he himself has no idea what is happening. we also know that it is a scene separate from the colour scene as the set is completely different, like two parallels to the story. 

I think that the reversal scene is an excellent scene and is something very much like jordan has envisioned for his story, it's going to be interesting what is going to become of the sound however.
